Frequently Asked Questions
Mamorabilia is part gallery, part weird-little Victorian shop, part studio archive, and occasionally a small rabbit hole. It is also a one-woman operation, so every inquiry, order, and unusual proposal is read by me personally — not redirected to a department with a headset and a laminated script.
Browsing and Buying
How does purchasing work?
There are two basic ways to acquire something here.
Some items—books, editions, and other straightforward offerings—will have a normal shopping-cart option. Add the item, check out, and I will take it from there.
Most original art, garments, artifacts, and Private Projects are handled by inquiry. Think of Mamorabilia more as a small gallery than a conventional online store. More Needful Things and less Zara. You see something that interests you, send me a note, and we discuss availability, shipping, timing, and any other relevant details before the purchase is finalized.
Does sending an inquiry commit me to buying?
No. An inquiry simply begins the conversation.
Please do be reasonably serious before writing; I am happy to answer thoughtful questions, but I would rather not spend an afternoon determining whether a sculpture will fit beneath your staircase if you have no staircase and no particular interest in sculpture.
How quickly will you respond?
I normally respond within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the nature of the question or request.
A simple availability question may receive a quick answer. A commissioned work, unusual shipping arrangement, or proposal requiring actual thought may take a little longer. Either way, you are corresponding directly with me.
Can anyone purchase any item?
Usually—but not invariably.
Most available items will go to the first confirmed buyer. Occasionally, a particularly personal or significant piece may be offered through a short application or conversation because I would genuinely like it to find the right home.
I also reserve the right to decline an order or project when the arrangement does not feel appropriate, respectful, or comfortable. If payment has already been made for something I cannot fulfill, it will be refunded.
What currency and payment methods do you accept?
Prices are listed in USD.
Payment may be arranged through Stripe, PayPal, or selected major cryptocurrencies. The available method will depend on the listing and transaction.
I do not ordinarily offer payment plans, though an unusual project may involve an agreed deposit or installment schedule when the work itself is being completed in stages.
The Objects
Is everything one of a kind?
Books and designated editions may be available in multiple copies.
Unless a listing says otherwise, garments, original artwork, sculptures, and personal artifacts are unique. For clothing, it is that dress, corset, bra, coat, or other object. For art, it is the piece I made once, and am not planning to reproduce.
Gone generally means gone.
What condition are the clothes in?
Each listing will include the available measurements, condition, alterations, history, and visible signs of wear.
Many garments have lived lives before arriving here. A softened seam, faint mark, repair, or eccentric alteration may be part of the object’s story rather than a defect waiting to ambush you.
Cleaning will depend on the garment and, where appropriate, the buyer’s preference regarding how much—or how little—“essence of Heather” should remain.
Will original works include proof of authenticity?
Yes. Original art and designated collectible objects will include a signed certificate of authenticity, generally with a photograph or identifying description of the piece.
Some objects are not sensible candidates for a signature. The certificate provides a permanent record without requiring me to carve my name into something that strongly objects to being carved.
Do the photographs show the exact item?
For unique works and garments, yes, unless clearly stated otherwise.
Colors can vary slightly between screens, and measurements are approximate, so please read the full listing and ask any important questions before purchasing.
Private Projects and Experiences
What is a Private Project?
Private (or Personal) Projects are creative works developed through direct conversation. They might include original writing, audio, inscriptions, personalized objects, creative consultation, or another idea that does not fit neatly into an existing listing. I tend to veer far away from selling "custom sets" or anything similar.
I am much more interested in creating something distinctive than reproducing the usual menu of generic custom content.
How do I propose one?
Follow the instructions on the relevant listing or inquiry page. Tell me what you have in mind, why it interests you, and what you hope the finished experience or object will be.
You do not need to arrive with every detail settled. Part of the point is figuring out together what the idea actually wants to become. And, believe it or not, I'm pretty open minded. If you approach me with a sense of shared respect, I will do the same. If no offense is intended, none will be perceived.
Are all requests accepted?
No, but respectful proposals are welcome.
I do not offend easily, and an unusual idea is not automatically a bad one. Still, kindness, common sense, and an appreciation for boundaries go a very long way. Pointless lewdness is rarely as original as its author believes.
Some experiences or materials are intended only for adults. Any age requirement, application process, fee, deposit, or additional condition will be made clear before you proceed.
What does purchasing a project or experience include?
It includes the specific work, access, correspondence, or experience described and agreed upon.
It does not automatically create an ongoing personal relationship, unlimited communication, or access beyond the project itself. Parameters, timelines, revisions, and expectations will be discussed in advance so that neither of us has to rely upon telepathy.
Can I share or publish a custom work?
Unless we agree otherwise in writing, custom writing, audio, images, and other commissioned materials are for your private, personal, noncommercial enjoyment.
Please do not repost, distribute, sell, publish, or feed them into an artificial-intelligence system without permission. You can show them off to your friends if you want to though, I mean, you know what I'm talking about.
Shipping
Where do you ship?
I ship worldwide from Mexico, normally through DHL.
A complete street address is required. DHL does not ordinarily deliver international shipments to post-office boxes.
Why is shipping so expensive?
Because international shipping from Mexico is, regrettably, not an arena in which romance and optimism are rewarded.
Ordinary postal services can be slow, difficult to track, vulnerable to loss, and prone to long customs delays. For valuable, personal, or irreplaceable objects, DHL offers the most reliable combination of tracking, insurance, and professional handling available to me.
It costs more, but it creates considerably less opportunity for a sculpture to vanish into the administrative mist. Your shipping cost will always be disclosed before payment is finalized.
Is tracking and insurance included?
Yes. You will receive tracking information, and appropriate shipments will be insured.
The buyer is responsible for monitoring the package, responding to DHL or customs when necessary, and being available to receive it.
Are duties and customs fees included?
No. Import duties, tariffs, taxes, brokerage charges, and customs fees imposed by the destination country are the buyer’s responsibility.
These charges vary enormously and are outside my control, so it is worth checking your local rules before purchasing something substantial.
How long will it take to ship?
Completed items normally leave within one week of the finalized order.
I use that time to document the piece, package it properly, prepare any certificate or paperwork, and add the personal details that prevent the experience from feeling robotic.
Made-to-order pieces and Private Projects will follow the schedule discussed in advance.
Can multiple items be shipped together?
Certainly, when practical. Combining items may reduce the overall shipping expense, and I am happy to arrange that before dispatch.
Is the packaging discreet?
Yes.
The exterior will be neutral and will use a return name and address that protect my personal privacy while also giving the recipient some discretion. Required courier and customs information will still be accurate.
Inside the box, however, discretion may give way to personality. Reowr.
Will there really be a surprise inside?
Yes. Every shipped order will include some sort of small extra.
It may be a handwritten note, photograph, zine, studio scrap, odd little curiosity, "BeckBucks," or something selected because it seems particularly suited to you or your purchase.
These little goodies will change over time. They are not standardized rewards with published cash values; they are part of the pleasure of sending the package, and explaining them too thoroughly would rather defeat the point.
Returns and Problems
Can I return something because I changed my mind?
Generally, no.
Many Mamorabilia objects are unique, personal, previously worn, commissioned, or otherwise difficult to place back on an imaginary warehouse shelf. Please review the listing, measurements, photographs, and condition notes before purchasing.
A remedy may be available if the wrong item was sent, the item was materially misrepresented, the shipment was lost, or the object arrived irretrievably damaged.
What should I do if my package arrives damaged?
Contact me promptly and include clear photographs of:
The unopened exterior package
The shipping label
The internal packaging
The item and the apparent damage
Please keep all packaging until the matter is resolved. An unboxing video is strongly recommended for fragile, unusual, or interactive works.
I photograph completed items and packages before shipping. This helps distinguish genuine transit damage, supports an insurance claim, and gives everyone something more useful than competing recollections.
What about artworks intended to be opened or destroyed?
Some works contain hidden objects or experiences that are revealed by opening, dismantling, breaking, or otherwise transforming the original piece.
That process is intentional, and it is entirely up to the discretion of the customer to decide the state of the piece. But, it also means any suspected shipping damage must be documented before exploration begins. Once the piece has been deliberately opened or destroyed, it may be impossible to determine what happened in transit and what happened during the grand unveiling.
If something genuinely goes wrong during shipping, I will work with you and the courier to find a fair resolution.
Keeping Up
How often will new things appear?
Periodically, and not always predictably.
New work may emerge from the studio; an older object may resurface from an archive or wardrobe; a project may produce an unexpected edition; or I may simply decide that something has spent long enough staring at me from a shelf.
Updates will appear through my social media and Patreon. A mailing list may also become available for collectors who would particularly like early notice.
Still have a question?
Send me a note through the contact page. I normally answer within 24 to 48 hours, and I would much rather clarify something beforehand than untangle an avoidable misunderstanding afterward.
Mamorabilia is personal by design. The objects have histories, the projects require conversation, and the occasional strange door may lead somewhere unexpected. Common sense, curiosity, and good manners will carry you through most of it.
